Alvea: legend of the windwhisperers

Alvea is a game that focus on using elements often considered "Dark design", like lootboxes or other practices, for a good purpose in helping kids with chronic illnesses to adhere to their daily treatment. As my graduation project, this meant i was involved in every aspect of the production, from the initial investigation, to the creation of the game design document to the final prototype implementation, and became a good foundation of my skills later into my career.

The initial stages of design involved analyzing currently available games with similar objectives to mine, in order to determine what elements were missing that these products could be improved upon, followed by a user research process in order to determine the visual and gameplay elements my target user preferred. Once those elements were defined an initial game concept document was defined, and later refined into a game design document.

The wireframing process started with work on paper, with the main focus of defining what information was needed to show on the screen and how to organize it, which was later cleaned up on pc and refined into a final product.

The same process was used to make the ingame UI, this time using the gameplay flows defined in the game design document in order to determine the necessary information to be displayed.

Background design process; 4 different regions were conceptualized, based on different player traits recognized from the user research, from thumbnails to color.

4 characters were design in order to exemplify the style of each region, as well as a main character and enemy, both with their respective animations to be implemented into the prototype.

Finally everything was implemented into unity, and made into a prototype in order to show the core loop of the game.
